Water
Nothing is lovelier than moving water,
The diamond element, innumerable jewel,
Brittle and splintering under the sharp sun,
Yet softer than doves' feathers, and more smooth
Than down of swan.
Nothing is lovelier than water lying still,
When the moon takes that stillness for her glass.

And nothing more devastating when it floods!
ReplyDeleteAnd nothing is lovelier than its sound, be it a babbling brooke or a thunderous ocean wave. However, there is something about water when it is still and reflecting light, be it the moon or the sun, then it is beyond lovely.
ReplyDeleteLove the marriage here of words and images Friko.
The black and white - very soothing.
ReplyDeleteWater is everywhere here these days - the ponds are at their highest. I go to sleep to the sound of stream running downhill - silent all summer but coming to life for the winter.
And nothing is lovlier than a cold crisp drink on a very hot day! Nice photos, of course.
ReplyDeletei love this friko! water works so slowly and deliberately. it's 3/4 of our planet, 70% of our body. it makes sound, colour, taste, touch all that much more beautiful and essential. bullett is new to me. the photographs are exquisite!!! steven
ReplyDeleteGlad that these line were written with a pencil, as it is this the mean which transmits most of my feelings as well.
ReplyDeleteHope that everything is fine with you, with regard to 'water'.
A good start into the new week.
Water can be beautiful, when it is flowing gently and not overwhelming us.
ReplyDeleteYour poem is very peaceful and soothing. Thank you for sharing!
They say water never sleeps, it is always in some state of change or morphosis, as are we as souls in lesson, in this lifetime, on this plane of existence. I once wrote a review for WOMAN IN THE DUNES and called it "Sand Never Sleeps". I like the fact your our two blogs have poetry and wonderfully picked imagery in common. Your own fiction too is a pure pleasure to read.
ReplyDeleteHi Friko~ The first photo fits the poetry perfectly--the dove's feathers and the swan's down are in the rushing white water. The second image also matches the lines: we see reflections in the water while the poem has the moon taking that stillness for her glass. I love these luminous pairings. Thank you! xxox
ReplyDeleteThe last two lines of this poem are particularly beautiful. A lovely bit of tranquility for the end of my day. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteReally nice.
ReplyDeleteI don't know who said this: Human beings were invented by water as a means of getting from place to place!
"Nothing is loveler than Water" except when it is very cold andvery muddy in which case there are very few things worse, especailly when it is making a small river through your salle I suspect!
ReplyDeleteWater is the driver of Nature.

Nothing is more vital than water when you are in the midst of a drought, as we are.
