Friko’s Personal Alphabet Game : L

Languidly
Leaning on the window
Ledge I
Laughed at Mr. Deedpoll, a man most skilled in circumventing the
Law, and therefore my
Long-time
Legal representative and
Lawyer, who had come to tell me about a
Legacy
Left to me by my
Late uncle Oscar,
Last seen eating a hearty
Luncheon of
Langoustine and chips, who had died un
Loved and un
Lamented.

Late Uncle Oscar, he of the
Leonine mane,
Lustful disposition and
Lax morals, a true
Libertine, departed this world in his usual
Leisurely and
Luxurious manner, surrounded by
Lively,
Luscious
Ladies,
Lured to his side by filthy
Lucre.

Lots of
Lovely
Lolly, now mine, all mine. Even his
Lavish
Lifestyle had not
Lacerated his
Loot.

Look here, Uncle Oscar, you did not
Labour in vain. You
Lectured me most
Laudably on
Life’s
Lessons.
I have
Learned them well. You
Led where I will follow, through the
Lichgate of
Love.

Launch-pad.

  1. Composing that little gem is surely better for the brain than any sudoku puzzle.

  2. From here, Friko, it's but a short step to avant-garde poetry, like Christian Bök's Eunoia, a five-chapter book in which each chapter is a "univocal lipogram" – the first chapter has A as its only vowel, the second chapter E, etc. Some excerpts, to give you the idea, are
    here. Happy holidays!

    1. not for real, Richard, it’s an invented story., nobody is going to leave me a bundle and if they did I wouldn’t spend it in wine women and song. A handsome man or two, hm, perhaps.

  4. Dear Friko, I loved all your Ls...it's a letter that launches lots of lively, luxurious literary possibilities.

Glad to Learn that you and yours found some comforts in sheltering from recent rains. It's still so oddly warm over here...we all wonder what it will feel like when the next weather changing shoe falls to ground.

Meanwhile...grand to not need hat or gloves. Those sidewalk stands selling Christmas trees are surely wishing for cooler days and nights for their imports from Canadian forests.

  6. Hi Friko - was the L a decision ... or just that all the legal, literal, lawyerly thoughts came into your mind at once as the lurid cruel days of grey preyed across the Shropshire landscape?

When my mother was in hospital one day ... I found her reciting words beginning with the letter D - asked her what she was doing, mentioned one - promptly to be told - that's much too easy! She did make me laugh ...

... and your rollicking lick around the L for Learning Letters is just wonderful to read ... thanks so much ... cheers Hilary

  7. What a delight way to start the day -- such creativity, and some amusement as lagniappe. It occurs to me that my name would fit here somehow, given that my middle name is Lee. Those three Ls do make for a heck of a monogram, that's for sure. I did have to look up "lolly." I thought immediately of "lollipop," and see that, despite the different spelling, it is related.

"Lolly" also called to mind a little ditty from my camping days. We used to sing, "We are the girls from Brighton Follies, we dance around like rubber dollies. We don't smoke, and we don't chew, and we don't go with boys who do..." My, that's been sixty years ago, now.

  10. Brilliant! The caesura with "un" is a stroke of genius, as is the L plate. I want to be in your poetry class.

  20. Clever woman, you are.

I've been reading all kinds of 'old' posts of yours, getting a sense of how things are in your world. I was a little afraid of what I might find, but am relieved to see that things seem to be chuffing along more or less as usual. So it seems, at least.
