. . . . whatever next!
What a strange thing it is when a blogger feels guilty for not updating their blog at regular intervals with a new edition of personal trivia. As if it would make the tiniest bit of difference if one disappeared! There are millions of us competing for attention, after all.
However, life has indeed been getting in the way of blogging recently, rather pleasantly, actually.
Here’s a little something instructive to be getting on with for those of you who need telling; I found it pinned to the wall above a broken wash basin in the ladies’ of a very shabby shop.
Gallivanting is coming to an end and normal service will be resumed forthwith.
I'm so glad life is pleasantly interfering with your blogging, Friko. And yes, many people would notice if you disappeared.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to finding out about your pleasant blog-interference.
Luv, K
So glad your life has very pleasantly been getting in the way of blogging Friko - long live gallivanting!
ReplyDeleteTis strange how guilty we/I feel when life gets in the way of visiting other blogs, acknowledging comments etc - funny little things that we are!
Kind regards.
Anna :o]
I'm so glad you reminded me about the handwashing thing. I was doing it the other way round and getting in all kinds of messes.
ReplyDeleteNothing like a bit of gallivanting. Tell us what you've been up to.
ReplyDeletePleasant interference is much better than unpleasant interference :) have a beautiful weekend Friko.
ReplyDeleteI am delighted you are out gallivanting and can't wait to hear how that has been going! And I am very big on that handwashing gig -- for me and for others!
ReplyDeleteGlad you will be back again soon, that you are busy with good things, but must disagree- your absence WOULD be very much missed. I think of Dave King often.......Ciao, Pal
ReplyDeletezulke bordjes zie je niet veel meer
ReplyDeleteYour first paragraph says it all. We have talked ourselves into thinking that others wait to read our opinions, events and passions and to see our photographs of those people and things we love. I am guessing very few give a ++++ and we have to accept that!
ReplyDeleteI like to see who has written what, but it would be awhile before I thought someone was actually not out there, Friko. I love your blog, and I follow your writing religiously. That is figuratively speaking, that is. :-)
ReplyDeleteGallivanting - such a fun word conjuring up visions of skipping, shopping, lunch with favorite people - activities to be enjoyed frequently!
ReplyDeletegal·li·vant also gal·a·vant (gl-vnt)
ReplyDeleteintr.v. gal·li·vant·ed also gal·a·vant·ed, gal·li·vant·ing also gal·a·vant·ing, gal·li·vants also gal·a·vants
1. To roam about in search of pleasure or amusement. See Synonyms at wander.
2. To play around amorously; flirt.
I hope your interval includes both :D

Happy gallivanting. And, in the millions of blogs, you would be missed.
ReplyDeleteFriko, I don't feel *guilty* when I don't blog daily or semi-daily, but I feel... what's the word?... negligent, lazy, fearful... last one probably fits best. If I quit blogging, I figure people would miss me for a week or so, then forget. It's not pleasant to be forgotten. However, I do know that some people are never forgotten. A few of my online friends have passed on and after blogging with them for many years, I do 'still miss them'.
ReplyDeleteBut... galivanting is good! and yes, life sometimes gets in the way...
Sometimes you need a break, Friko, and I'm so glad that what has been interfering is positive stuff! I'm happy to read your posts anytime -- and actually have some catching up to do because, for the last month, I've had two book deadlines and haven't posted at all. So don't feel guilty. We all go on hiatus at some time or another!
ReplyDeleteIt is considerate of them to have visual aides along with the words.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean – we were on a trip for about a month and for 10 days before we left I was busy writing four posts, to appear each week, pre-programmed. My daughter read the comments and published them (and deleted spam) while I was away and did not have a computer. We just came back a couple of days ago and I am busy reading all the blog posts I missed – now I have to hurry up and download all my pictures. But before I’ll be able to publish all the posts on our last trip, we are going on another little trip… so it never ends and I am always behind. I never finished my posts on San Francisco and did not even start posts on our last trip to the Ukraine last year- but then, I don’t feel guilty either.
ReplyDeleteNo blogger should ever feel guilty for not posting, or feel their blog being a burden, I agree with you. However, I do not agree with it not making a difference if one posts or not.
ReplyDeleteThere are some blogs on my reading list that I enjoy more than others, and I miss those posts (and their authors) if they are not around. Also, some have left blogland for good, and I still think of them and wonder how they are and how nice it would be if they picked up blogging again.
I see, Friko, your garden works are over and you have enough time to write new post. All right, I love reading your recollections and thoughts. Have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteWell, damn. In my family we always used the soap after we dried our hands. I can't believe we had been doing it wrong. I am so embarrassed.
ReplyDeleteMillions may be competing for attention, but you are missed. Dianne
ReplyDeletethat the wash basin was broken only adds to the humor that you need all the steps to understand how to wash your hands...how did life get so complicated...smiles.
ReplyDeleteThat's what Mom always said - "Wash your hands" etc,etc
ReplyDeleteI do not feel the least bit guilty when I do not post. I post when I have something to write about. Some days I have much to put in print, others - not so much. This is fun to create little tid bits of where I live, life n history, giggly stuff etc; - however I do not feel obliged to write nor do I feel guilty or lazy.
If only people would abide by your sign, we would indeed have less germs, right :)
Have a wonderful day.
Perfect timing for flu season! I don't touch door handles with my bare hands...
ReplyDeleteOver here we have posters showing how to wash your hands and others showing you how to cough or sneeze.....into your elbow if you do not have a handkerchief.
ReplyDeleteFunny, that, about life getting in the way of blogging! Know the feeling well, and am always amused when I, too, feel that deadline pressure.
ReplyDeleteI WOULD miss you, Friko, and I definitely know when you're absent. However, it's lovely when the good things in life call you away.
ReplyDeleteLife does tend to take precedence at times.
ReplyDeleteGallivant!!! I think it is a lovely word. Better that life gets in the way of blogging than the other way round
ReplyDeleteHi Friko - no hurry! Good that you are enjoying yourself. Life is what matters.
ReplyDeleteHave been going through the whether to be guilty or not phase myself, am trying to get to blogging every day for 3 weeks to see where I am going. Enjoy your autumn. Freda at Dalamory (www.freda.org.uk)
ReplyDeletefriko, darlin', we're none of us competing out here.
ReplyDelete...or we ought'nt be. we do not need to make more noise or get more eyeballs than someone else, unless we really, really need to sell advertising clickthroughs.
so write or don't. we will read you if you do, and you just have a good time, ok?
It would make an enormous difference to your readers if you disappeared so don't be entertaining that thought! I must play catch-up every week as I'm away for half of it, week in, week out. I don't post often either, but I do thank you for visiting as often as you do :)
ReplyDeleteI empathize with you, but don't stop blogging! I was just talking about life and blogging, too. I'd miss you. Great sign. Especially over a broken sink. Enjoy whatever you are up to! ;)
ReplyDeleteAlthough it's nice to garner an audience and interact with the "community" that can spring up around a blog, I suppose we ultimately need to be writing for ourselves--so that, if and when the audience falls away, we still have sight of our purpose. This is equally true when applied to a "I should be updating my blog" impulse: if we're doing it for ourselves, then we do it when and how we can.
ReplyDeleteKeep enjoying Real Life.
Yes, what they all said!
ReplyDeleteI really get it, and you should post just as often to please. I will always be around to read it, sooner or later.
ReplyDelete=)
Hi Friko - glad it's been happy times ... cheers Hilary
