Map of St. Ninian’s Isle, Shetland, Scotland
For A.H.
The two of us
Tethered
For all eternity.
Ravages of time,
tempests and turmoil
cannot separate us.
Spring-tides and storms
may force the link
to become submerged,
but soon calm prevails
and it is free again
for all to see.
Like the
umbilical cord
connecting us,
no matter how great
the strain
we put upon it.
This poem is in answer to
Tess Kincaid’s Magpie 186.

We all dream of such a connection :)
ReplyDeleteI have those connections, too, Friko. But I'm unable to articulate them like this. Thank you! BTW, it occurred to me that I have had a few people I thought were my friends who weren't. Your description of that experience stirred something up in me that I've been mulling. Thank you for sharing that, too. (in a previous post)
ReplyDeleteA beautifully expressed truth. I so admire your skill with words. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteExpressed well, a strong tie. I like the map, is that a bridge connecting it to the mainland?
ReplyDeletePeople come in and out of our lives, but many stay in our hearts, no matter the distance, no matter the pain.
ReplyDeleteI loved your poem.
no matter how great the strain we put on it...i like the acceptance of the fact we, not the storms, are often the ones putting stress on it...
ReplyDeletevery cool how you played on that connection... ah..i like the umbilical cord image..
ReplyDeleteThose are fantastic words and the perfect picture to go with them. Have a good week. Diane

I would say this is just a lovely poem - "the tie that binds" whether its birth, friendship, marriage, relationship - you've - as we say in the Maritimes - "Hit the nail on the head" - for sure, Eh
ReplyDeleteNice use of metaphor. Well penned.
ReplyDeleteMay your tie always bind.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful...
ReplyDeleteMy dear, this is not an 'attempt' at poetry ~~~ this IS poetry!
ReplyDeleteThe romance of the (land) masses. Enchanting.
ReplyDeletePearl
lovely testament to togetherness - i found myself singing "blessed be the tie that binds" (in the words of the old song)
ReplyDeleteThe tie that binds...came to my mind, too. I am not unique, I see--LOL! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHow about the Internet as a tie that binds?
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning. What a to tribute to love, what a tribute to being together. Oh, to be the one to receive this gift.
ReplyDeleteHallo Friko,
I love this one, the last line most especially.
ReplyDeleteI treasure these relationships, and they are few and far between.
=)
Whether seen or not, (whether wanted or not!) many such connections exist in our lifetime. This is NOT an "attempt" at poetry! It is beautiful poetry.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Strengthen the link, don't let it wash away...
