First it looked like everything would change,
we’d tax the rich and allow the poor to eat without feeling guilty.
Children climbed trees and parents sat underneath
awaiting the miracle of rebirth.
Horses grazed peacefully
and riders took a breather.
Then, Oh horror!
It all went down the pan again;
another five years of fat cats getting fatter
and belt tightening for the rest of us.
They’re lining up to chuck themselves off the cliff!
Oh Misery, Oh Horror.
You just need to remind yourself that it could have been much worse . . . . . . . OK I'm lying.

I forget which politician it was now, but he made a very salient point about the less well off paying for the sins of the fat cat bankers.

I would say the photos re well-used. I just wish it weren't necessary. These election results are deplorable.
ReplyDeleteWell - we are all in this together - not sure if that brings any comfort. I, for one, am so very weary of the entire game being played around us. So not looking forward to the months ahead as rich candidates make promises they will never keep.
ReplyDeleteAh, the election. I wasn't quite sure which had the best platform -- you don't hear that much over here, at least where I am. But given that I am more liberal than conservative and the Conservatives won -- well, I hear you loud and clear.

Hi Friko - an interesting weekend ... I'm just glad we're not all hanging around for Hung Parliaments. I appreciated the VE Day Service and Remembrances ... but your photos are brilliant and so well used ... or abused - who cares - gave me a lift for an early Monday ... cheers HIlary

ReplyDeleteFriko, be careful what you wish for, especially in politics. We had changes here and what is the result? Worse, worst and worstest and on top of that strikes and fights and nobody is happy or even hopeful for the future. But everybody in politics gets fatter and fatter and we have the highest density of politicians as there are 3 communities.., that is 3 parliaments for 10 million people. On top of that all the EU seats. At least, you will have a referendum for the EU, we are even not asked.

ReplyDeleteI have such problems sorting out your system -- coalitions and PMs and all that -- but there's no trouble at all figuring out the politicians generally. Promise whatever polls well, get elected, ignore promises, get rich. The end. Not for them, of course, but for us, more than likely. There are real threats in the world they seem determined to ignore. Most of them will arrive on our doorstep long before the planet warms or cools or reverses on its axis: whatever the latest on that is amongst the gurus.
ReplyDeleteoh, same here. the rich own our government and something that I don't understand, they want to end all the social programs to help the hungry and needy. it's not like the measly amount of money in the government budget that goes to help is hurting them in their pocketbook.

ReplyDeleteOh how I agree. I was in tears on Friday morning. A close friend from Wales has said she wishes to return to the Valleys but her husband said that they largely voted UKIP there. She also mentioned that Edward Heath would look like a Leninist to the Tory party nowadays.
