Overheard . . . .

Thanks for the honour, Hilary.
It’s much appreciated.

well, not so much overheard as said within my hearing.

The BBC had a news item about HM The Queen; apparently she has caught the tummy bug that many thousands of her subjects picked up this winter, only with her it’s gastroenteritis. She’s been admitted to a private hospital for observation. We wish her well, as we would any old lady of near 87 suffering this nasty and debilitating ailment.

The newscaster and reporter had a serious discussion about the event, during which the presenter in the studio asked:

“Will we hear any further news, about her condition and any progress she may be making?”

“No, we won’t”, said the reporter outside the King Edward VII. “The hospital never divulge any information about their patients and we most certainly will not be told about the Queen’s state of health. There may be an official statement from the Palace in due course.”

Beloved sat up in his chair and said “The Royal bowels are not for public consumption!”

How right you are, dear, how right you are.

  2. I really do like Beloved! And I think you two strike me as a good match!

    Long live the Queen!

  3. Well, I certainly HOPE the Royal Bowels are getting better and that we won't have to hear anything more about them! Anyone that old needs the best of care and I'm sure she's getting it. :-)

  4. I don't need to know about anyone's bowels, royal or otherwise!

  5. You must admit it's a rather horrid idea to think of consuming anyone's bowels! :D

  6. Bless the Royal Palace for their discretion. Here in the US we would be given a graphically detailed accounting including date, time & volume in addition to how much each episode would impact our spiraling national debt.

May HM The Queen recover soon - never a good scenerio for anyone and being 87 can complicate any illness.

Your Beloved has captured this so well!!

  8. Oh dear...images of hanging drawing and quartering come to mind....

  9. Here's wishing the Queen a speedy recovery (and giggling at your beloved's sense of humor).

  10. Your beloved was so very right. Essentially, it is none of our business. Let the poor woman be unwell (and recover) in peace.

  11. Hi Friko - how wonderful having Beloved around! Great commentary must emanate at times ... or just flow through as now ...?

Enjoy a couple days of sunny walks with Millie ... cheers Hilary

  15. Oh look! Every KNOWS the Queen doesn't go to the toilet! Of course she doesnt! She is The Queen! We don't know what she does instead and we don't care. But I will not countenance the Monarch on the er... throne, so to speak. It's just not seemly.

  16. I just wonder how the doctor treating Her Majesty would talk about the whole thing.
Somehow it all seems off limits doesn't it? I popped over from George's (Transit Notes) to say Hello.

  17. Ha ha ha - your other half is funny!

  18. I'm sure the Queen wishes she had the power to ban the media from reporting 'royal events' that are really very trivial but do intrude on her private life. Poor woman! I wouldn't want to be in her shoes for anything!
Anyway, the important news is that you and Millie are both well again. I've just had a quick look round your garden. Stunning! Thank you, Friko!

  19. God save the Queen. Oh, that's right, she doesn't rely on public health. But I must say, judging by your encounters it's pretty darned good in the mother country. Friko, just did a post about my time in Germany you might enjoy.

  20. Everything about the Queen needs to be sanitized for your protections(& hers). I like the old girl though, even with all the hereditary taint. I think it is sort of sad that so many people have voiced the opinion that Prince Charles should be passed over for his son in the event of her demise.

  21. Quite frankly, I do not wish to hear about the state of anyone's bowels, Royal or otherwise. ( Ohhhhh, the tales I could tell about my own gastroenteritis events would curl your toes.) My sister suffers from something or other which causes her great distress, and when she begins to talk about it I go off into space somewhere. Dianne

  24. I see it was dutifully reported that she didn't let it prevent her from fulfilling all her commitments, since she presented a long-service medal before leaving for the hospital. I have this mental image of a hand appearing round a fractionally-opened loo door and a voice saying "Well done, and all that, but would you mind pinning this on yourself? One is rather preoccupied at present......"

  25. thank goodness for the British stiff upper lip attitude...that way you won't have TMI like we do in the States.
Congrats on Post of the Week. Oma Linda

  26. Mustn't it be horrid for her to know that the whole world knows she has "the runs"?
At least we common folk could have anonymity!

  27. Indeed! Isn't that how most of prefer to keep our inner lives? Although I suspect facebook, twitter, and the gossip rags do their fair share of spouting such leaks.

  28. Yes I heard about the tummy bug from my daughter. It seems keeping in fluids is a bit hard and some require a top up via an IV.
    I love the hubby's comment:)
