No Climate For Easter Bonnets

Really Hilary?
Thank you so much.

This is My World
in the glorious Shropshire Hills during Easter week 2013

Sky and land are one colour.
The castle looms ghostlier than ever.

If it weren’t for people and dogs
you’d hardly know where one begins and the other ends.

Beloved is struggling to get down the path
from the house to the field.
Millie is having fun but scents are well covered,
she has to work hard to reach attractive doggie perfumes through the snow.

You may not believe it but there are places
where the sun shines.

  2. Brrr. Cold here in South Carolina where I am vacationing...but not THAT cold! Now if I was home it would be.

  3. wow...your world is as beautiful in the snow...love the castle pic...and the pic of your beloved as well....we got 7 inches of snow here this weekend...

  4. Great shots....I like the idea that Millie has to struggle. My little devils roll in snow like all dogs so I take no notice. Twice in this cold snap they have found badger crap to roll in. I'm an expert in mammal crap. Thanks to my two I can tell fox, badger, dead seal and Grey Lag Goose at five yards.

    Watch yours!

  5. Although we have nowhere near as much snow as you, it is still way too cold for my liking, and I am so sorry for the flowers and the birds and everything else that just wants to go ahead doing what they always do in spring (myself included).

  6. Wonderful photos! The first one is haunting.

    Happy Tuesday. ☺

  8. Yikes. Will winter ever leave England? I'm almost embarrassed to tell you that we have sunshine, green grass and flowers blooming. And they say our climate is very close to that of England's. Not this year. Sending sympathy.

  9. Ja ik geloof het maar binnen schijnt hij toch wel.?

  10. Wow that really does look very cold. Hope it clears for Easter. Take care Diane

  11. Beautiful photos and hopefully it will soon be warmer.

  12. The photos of the castle and the bridge are particularly lovely, Friko, but I'm sure they're not, from your point of view!

  13. Lovely, lovely shots!

  14. Beautiful. It would be more beautiful if these were pictures of December instead of March, but what can you do?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh so beautiful. And yes, I can say that from here where it is still frequently too hot.

  16. This looks very much like my world right now ... except for the castle. Wonderful photos and how I know that stopping for smells under the snow. Was thinking of your dear Benno... I bet you still think of him all the time... they are so special, aren't they?

  17. The countryside is looking very much the same on both sides of Offa's Dyke, Friko. Wonderful photos and I love the sight of Millie looking for hidden scents.

  18. Our snow has melted because the sun shines every day, although it is cold out there. I don't mind one bit and like to see the ground beneath my feet. Just a few more weeks, Friko, and we'll be sitting in outdoor cafes.

  19. That first shot -- glorious, gloomy, eerie, ethereal, magical. I expect a Druid to emerge. Sweet Millie, oh, doesn't she just make you heart sing? I'm so glad she found her way to you.

  20. Friko, your beautiful March snow covered landscape are such a contrast to our dry NYC Streets, and a reminder to me of how blissfully, if strangely, warm London was this time last year.

  21. Friko, that shot of the ghostly castle is fantastic. And you are right, it certainly is no climate for Easter bonnets. As it is, the Easter Bunny is going to have difficulty hopping through all that snow. But you never know, maybe by some miracle the sun will come out Easter Sunday morning and winter will finally be over.

  22. I completely understand being so sick of the white stuff but it sure does make for some stunning photos. Your surroundings are so beautiful, Friko.

  23. It certainly is pretty but it makes me shiver.

  24. That last picture is very picturesque but I don't believe I'd like to be out in it.

  25. It's beautiful - and you'll marvel at the images come July.....but by now you must be weary of the never-ending snow. I wish you a thaw that comes quickly enough to bring on a blaze of blossoms by not so quickly that it causes flooding.

  26. The sun shines here, for example - so I do believe it.
Remember when we had snow at Easter in Germany? I remember how I hated any snow after the official begining of spring. And it seemed that every year there was some winter in spring - at least this is how I remember it. And at those moments I appreciate my beautiful Northern Californian climate.

  27. Oh yes, Friko, I am one of the lucky ones! I would gladly and happily gift you with some, if I could! :-)

  28. Hello Friko, well today we finally broke the freezing point (the warm side) It war +2*C and supposed to get warmer from here on but slowly I hope. We have mountains of snow here and don't need any flooding. Hope it warms up for you soon.

  29. The UK weather, full of surprises. Stay cosy.

  30. Hi Friko - the weather is desperate for so many - the photos that are coming out from further west and Ireland - remind me of my posts I did on those appalling years in the 1940s, 50s and 60s ... It is so sad for family farmers who've been through really tough times in recent years ..

Beautiful photos though ... with thoughts - there was a dusting of snow on Box Hill when I went up to London yesterday ... and it certainly wasn't thinking of thawing, London was freezing too ...

    Cheers Hilary

  32. In January I would have written, how beautiful ! But now end March I am allergic to white especially snow !! Ours just melted away but it is still very cold and freezing.
The last I can say, you were very spoiled with snow this year !!

  34. Great pictures, and like many here, I too love the vista of the snow-shrouded castle. I hope you get to see the elusive yellow ball hanging in the sky soon.

  35. I am in awe that that weather moves you to write. I have turned into a pile of slush from the long . . . long . . . long winter.

  36. The pictures are simply beautiful, even if it is a bit on the chilly side. I especially love that last one.

  37. it's just beautiful, friko! congratulations on your POTW from hilary!

  38. My mother reminds me that when she was a little girl she always had new clothes for going to church on Easter Sunday...and that the weather was always uniformly awful!

  39. Terrific captures of a beautiful winter landscape... But I don´t like it in my own garden now.

  40. Thank you for your comment on my post on Visiona and Verb! Seeing these beautiful images of where you live I understand completely how you would be in love with it and at the same time want to stray!!!! We share that actually.......

  41. It is beautiful, and can't possibly last very long this time of year, right?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yikes. Not too Eastery!
But rather beautiful, all the same.

    =)

  43. Your world is so gorgeous Friko! Just like a fairyland. I wish there had been at least one day of snow here this year. We had a sprinkle yesterday morning but in less than 15 minutes it was gone. I understand it’s not easy when it snows so much, but it is so beautiful.

  44. Congratulations on Post of the Week, well earned! :-)

The images are wonderful! I particularly love the one with the brightly coloured anoraks.

I hope the snow is melting where you are, and sunshine and warm weather is on its way.

    Happy Easter,
    Merisi

  48. How cold it must be. So little colour, apart from the people The castle looks as if it's crumbling.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Goodness me, all I can think about looking at the castle ruins is how cold it must have been to live in those times. Today with our central heating, we live better than kings. Dianne

  50. Hello, and thank you so much for stopping by. These pictures are beautiful, but then I love a snow filled landscape. I hear they have snow in Sweden too right now. Here, spring is on it's way, but we have had snow as late as June up here in the mountains so nothing is for sure.

  51. Here via Hilary. These photos take us back to a different part of the country experiencing Winter. Quite different from Arizona!
