A Very Simple Join

Image: Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison

Got a ravishing ravine?
A fabulous fissure?
A cracking creek or a creaking crack?
Got a clamouring cleft?
A ripping rift?
A flaw in the ointment, a flaming fracture?

Whether
chasm, cranny, crevasse,
slit, slot or scissure;
a gully, gap or gulch,
 abyss, gorge or gulf,
There's only one thing to do:

Zip it up!
It may take some time,
but a zipper will fix any faultline.

  2. Too clever for me. Reminds me of Pink Floyd's Welcome to the Machine.

  3. I once had an uncanny can of onions that weighed only an ounce. No way, you say. Yes way, I say. For it originally weighed four but three were eaten by me. So me plus three equals one onion ounce uneaten by me. I could go on and on but that might put you off. Did I mention that my onion I own has ions? Yes, its true! If you split the miniscule onion molecule in two, its on & ion too!

    Okay, I'm finally through.

    Onion, I know, I know!

  4. Brilliant! Well done, Friko. I smiled at the picture, puzzled for a minute, and then read your poem. It's quite clever indeed.

  6. Fabulous, Friko. I love your lists of words. They seem to roll right off your tongue onto the page.
When I was 9, our dog had a large litter of pups. My sister, then 3, was watching the process under Mom's supervision. After the fourth or fifth pup, my sister said, "I think we should get Bootsie a zipper."

  18. This funny faultline frippery is fabulous, Friko! But leave it gaping, that's what I say! Nature is best when it's not patched up.

  21. Zippers are wonderful devices as long as the user doesn't get anything caught in them. Ouch!

  22. Now that would be one tongue-twister read out loud, I'd think! (Though I suspect Mark Kerstetter may be up to the task. Perhaps he'll put it up for us over at MarkReads . . .)

  24. Clever you!
The Great Dane thought he should have had a zipper installed in his chest for future surgeries. When this was vetoed he suggested a tattoo of a zipper over the scar. Also vetoed!

  30. Say that six times fast! A clever grouping of images in words.

Ah zippers - after 2 C-sections & various other major surgeries, installing a zipper would have been preferred. Or perhaps Velcro?
