and now for something completely different:

The squat Norman tower of

Three notices from this month's Parish Magazine,
represented here exactly as they appeared:

CHURCH NOTICE

The ladies of the Church have
cast off clothing of every kind.
They may be seen in the hall every
Friday afternoon.

NEW SLIMMING CLUB

A new slimming club will meet
every Tuesday in the hall at
7.00pm.
Please enter by the LARGE
 double doors at the back.

RUMMAGE SALE
31 APRIL

Ladies don't forget the rummage
sale, it's a chance to get rid of the
things not worth keeping around
the house. Bring your husbands.

P.S. : In spite of the luscious treats on offer at Valley's End, nature is not quite as lush yet as in the photo, which I took last summer.

  1. Oldies and goodies and the photo of the church is to die for.

I love churches and church architecture, especially the Norman stuff and those built before c.1700. Dianne

  8. I've seen those notices before - I think the editors of parish magazines enjoy thinking up double entendres;-)

  10. Loving the notices from the Parish Magazine! :)

I haven't been your way for quite some time. I think the GM festival was on and I'd forgotten, and decided I'd take the scenic room home from Ludlow. Which resulted in having to drive through hundreds of people making their way back to their cars! Ooops!

  11. LOL You live in a special place Friko.

  12. He he. Thanks for the chuckle!

  13. Ha!!!! It must be the same person who wrote all three of these notices! That would be a person with a real twinkle in his/her eyes.

  15. These three quotes had me laughing out loud at my computer desk here... I remember how my cat used to cast me indignant looks when I did that, sitting at my desk and laughing. Wonder why; did she just dislike the noisy sound of human laughter as such, or did she somehow assume it was directed at her?

  17. Love the photo!

Imagine there being three notices like that in the one magazine. Surely they must have been written by the same person! At least these are hilarious, the examples to be seen nearly every day in newspapers are not.

  30. These were funny notices and – in English – I thought the Brits were master at this language.

I read your last post with interest. I wonder how it must have felt being in London as an illegal worker, or anywhere else for that matter. My trip to the US, alone at 21 seems so pedestrian – I had a green card and found work right away at a good company downtown San Francisco – I almost feel guilty after reading what you had to go through.
